For this month’s edition of Prayer Corner, an anonymous writer will be sharing with us about how spiritual disciplines, like prayer and corporate worship, help us feel and know the God of the Bible.
August ’23: Spiritual Disciplines
By Anonymous
Spiritual disciplines, like prayer and corporate worship, help us feel and know the God of the Bible. Who has prayed and marvelled at the quietness of God? In the stillness of the moment, we pray, “Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of Your love (Psalm 69:16).” God knows our hearts and minds, yet (in Christ) we are precious and honoured in His sight, and He loves us (Isaiah 43:4). When we are still before the Lord, when we trust in Him and even when we call on Him in our time of need, we will receive mercy and find grace. Guaranteed – God says so in Hebrews 4:16 and elsewhere in the Bible. “He promises peace to His people (Psalm 85:8).” I know on whom we will rely.
Who has worshipped alongside brothers and sisters in Christ and heard the Word preached in music and from the pulpit? This is one aspect of fellowship. As we worship in Spirit and in truth, waiting for the last trumpet, in the twinkling of an eye, we will all be changed (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). Corporate worship then is just as vital as prayer since in both disciplines, we commune with God; however, with worship, iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Besides, the Bible exhorts us to continue meeting together and encouraging one another (Hebrews 10:25).
So, let us pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and continue in fellowship with fellow saints. In the fullness of time, every knee will bow, and God shall be glorified.
